VRS Basic Group Life Insurance

NRHA offers Basic life Insurance through Virginia Retirement System (and administered by Securian Financial, a financial services company) without charge to eligible employees. The Basic Life Insurance benefit is equal to your annual salary, rounded to the next highest thousand and then doubled. Coverage is automatic upon employment for eligible employees paid for by the employer. No medical examination is required. The plan carries a conversion option upon termination of employment for reasons other than retirement. For more information click here.   

After you separate employment and/or retire, your life insurance continues at no cost to you provided you are at least age 55 with at least five years of service as an employee; or are age 50 with 10 years of service under Plan 1. Under Plan 2 or the Hybrid Retirement Plan you must be at least age 60 with five years of service or the combination of your age and service equals 90. Your life insurance also continues if you retire because of disability.

The Virginia Retirement System (VRS) administers the Group Life Insurance Plan. Minnesota Life provides the coverage. Optional Life Insurance 

NHRA offers Optional Life Insurance to eligible employees at a group rate fully paid by the employee.  Employees may purchase additional coverage through the Optional Group Life Insurance Program. If members elect optional group life insurance coverage, they also may cover a spouse and dependent children.Dependents are eligible only if the employee elects optional coverage as well. Your spouse can apply for half of the amount of your coverage. It is available to newly hired employees without a health status declaration if selected within the first 30 days of hire. Optional group life insurance provides benefits for natural and accidental death or dismemberment. Employees pay the premiums through payroll deduction.

Colonial Life Insurance  

NRHA offers a voluntary elective supplemental whole life insurance option via Colonial Life Accident and Insurance Company.  Colonial Life Insurance offers NRHA Full Time employees the choice of term, universal, or whole life insurance options with coverage available for the employee, spouse, and children.  These plans are portable and can be continued if you retire or leave your job.  Make an appointment with your Colonial Benefits Counselor, Sue Brosemer, and let her help you choose the right life insurance policy for you and your family:

HAI Life Insurance  

NHRA offers a group life insurance automatically to all active full-time employees with a benefit of $5000.
